Lakeview is a small village located on the eastern shore of Lake Sidna. It is a settlement with very little renown or fame, known only to the travelers who are too cheap or too poor to find bed and rest in Lilyside. To the outsider, it is just a shambling old wooden-hut populace, and that is exactly how many of the locals like it. Lakeview has a population of 268 and covers an area of 87 acres including farmland; its main source of income are fishing and farming. The locals are a passive but asocial bunch that will offer only the bare minimum a town could provide to travelers.
There is an underlying narrative to Lakeview, one only the most scrupulous, under-stone-seeking adventurers could find. After all, what poor sod could have the time to take note of all the hoods most of these xenophobic shack-dwellers tend to wear? These hoods are as important to ALL the townsfolk as bait on a hook, once the fish gets a taste.
Should an adventurer be unlucky enough to find themselves within one of the shacks, be they skulking about in the shadows or peeping through a crack in the windowless homes, they will come across unsettling secrets, for beneath those hoods lie a pair of gills across all their necks, as the rest of their scaly body can be put into full view. The interior of their homes will lead into a small pool, which besides the relative muddiness of the waters could be a dream come true. These pools however serve a far more utilitarian purpose. In the night, or in the water, their gills flare and the webs between their appendages become all too apparent; they take to the pools within their homes.
At the end of these pools, should an adventurer dare venture, or else take off the hood of one person and have the whole town attack them, a great horror will be found. Beneath this complex of flooded tunnels, an adventurer will find an alcove where, despite being underwater, they can breath as if on the surface they were.
Here they will find the Queen of these fish-people - a youthful and beauteous woman forever set in an “ohm” position, with wide eyes that are an agonizing purple. She will ask the adventurer whether they agree to keep their town’s secret, and will thus let them go. Though beware, her magic is attuned to detecting lies of all kinds; no truth is safe from her. She will know an adventurer’s intent even before they enter the town’s perimeter. Thus, lying to her will result in a quick end, as the water pressure rises to such a level, the unfortunate adventurer is crushed and drowned swiftly.
