Janford is a large village in Queenstead, located just northwest of the Capital. The settlement sits upon green meadows overlooked by a snowy mountain range, overlooking a river past a small cliff. It has a population of 4,032 and takes up 430 acres, nearing the size of a small city. Most of the town is made up of sturdy wooden buildings of all shapes and sizes - from houses to structures ten stories tall. Taller buildings are made of stone or concrete like in the capital, though none near the size of a skyscraper.
The streets of Janford are mostly close together and intended to be traversed on foot, only a few avenues are wide enough for cars to travel without issue, though there's enough parking lots for travelers to safely leave their vehicles. Roads are made of cobblestone or compacted dirt, and vegetation is a frequent sight throughout the settlement, with trees and bushes growing on the side of the street or moss appearing on some buildings.
Janford is well known as the capital of mercenaries; many warriors for hire from all over the kingdom congregate in taverns and clubs, all overseen by one they call the King of Mercenaries, leader of the local guild. In these guild-run establishments one may register as a mercenary to find plentiful work opportunities; the guild charges only 20% of a job's pay in exchange for its services. Registered workers are rated depending on the amount of jobs they've completed; new mercs are given simple tasks while high-ranking ones can undertake higher-paying and more dangerous jobs.
People from all over the Kingdom come to Janford seeking escorts or problem-solvers. The jobs are posted as missives on boards located throughout town. Interested mercenaries must take the missives to a sponsored tavern's host, who will accept their service and manage payments. But beware - competition is part of the job!
