Tessar is an alloy of iron with carbon and tessarite to improve its strength and allow near-total arcane dispersion. Because its physical properties resemble steel with the added benefit of high magic resistance, Tessar is widely used in weapons, armor, and cryptite-powered technology.
The alloy's distinctive component is tessarite, an arcanophobic mineral naturally found in depleted deposits of cryptite. It is thought tessarite contributes to the localized pattern of cryptite clusters, preventing them from growing everywhere.
Although Tessar has been known for millennia, it became cheaper and widely employed decades after the rise of arcane firearms, bringing plate armor and melee weapons back from obsolescence. Tessar is considerably more expensive than steel despite its widespread use, thus limiting its applications to tasks that require resistance from physical and arcane elements alike.
