Misthammer Fort is an old military building sitting in Windhill's geothermal region known as the Brimlands, overlooked by Aston in the distant cliffs. It has a perimeter of 480 meters and its main tower a height of 60. The fort houses between 120 to 147 soldiers and 60 horses, and about a dozen land vehicles. Its remote location prevents criminal groups from building hideouts away from the eyes of civilization, though its connection to the main roads allows soldiers to quickly travel to settlements in need.
Misthammer Fort is also home to a small group of mages expert in the creation of simple lifeforms such magick automatons. Stone golems of all shapes and sizes are part of Misthammer's defenses; they absorb the thermal energy found in geysers heated by the underground magma rivers flowing beneath the Brimlands. These golems often hide in the surrounding hotsprings, camouflaging as stone formations that come to life when commanded or responding to a threat. The golems have also been known to camouflage with the fort's walls, surprising intruders as they spring out of the building itself.
Guards posted around the Fort and its road often warn travelers of the dangers they'll encounter, should they continue venturing West into the volatile volcanic areas. Despite that, soldiers from Misthammer have been known to accept escorting defenseless groups who'd venture there for a moderate fee.
