Description
"Come. Let them break their backs upon the mountain."
Long ago, there was a lord who ruled over Janford. He kept with him an ever-increasing army. Not the most skilled, but the most plentiful, he won more and more land through the sheer might of numbers, essentially betraying the Kingdom. The arrogant Lord was eventually held accountable for his crimes, and was executed for treason. Cyrus was an officer in the lord's army, devoid of purpose given their lord's fate. Young, but sharp of mind and quick of steel, The Mercenary King came up with a way to redeem his men. It started off small, patrolling the wilds, dispatching monsters and bandits, tagging along behind wagons and caravans. And soon, people began to travel to Janford again. Some would come specifically for the army of mercenaries all too eager to fight for a cause once again. At the center of this was he who came to be known as The King, who greatly boosted Janford's reputation by lending out his soldiers and using the funds to rebuild and improve his town, letting it grow over the years and even funding the construction of skyscrapers. Eventually, Janford was acknowledged as an official settlement again, and the Mercenary King was given lordship over its lands.
Through his mercenaries he gained great wealth and power, eventually going on to create and run a Guild in Janford, offering adventurers a chance to be part of his army. Those skilled in fighting oft register themselves at the Mercenary Guild in Janford; they receive jobs depending on their rating, receive rewards, and climb the ranks.
The King is well known for his cunning both on the battlefield and off it. His business sense allowed him to keep Janford running smooth enough that it could survive indefinitely, and his tactile wit kept opponents confused and often one-sidedly beaten. A good judge of character, he is not afraid to say things as he sees them, something that's made him friends and enemies aplenty.
