The Great House Telvanni is one of the Five Great Houses of the Dunmeri people in the land of Resdayn, more commonly known as Morrowind. This faction is ruled by powerful Wizard Lords* who conduct experiments and hold immensely isolationist beliefs from the tops of their Telvanni Mushroom Towers. Their settlements, inhabited by wannabe sorcerers, commoners, and slaves, reflect the fungal mastery that are their towers – the inhabitants usually living within fungal pods grown from the roots of these towers. Most notably, alongside their immense desire for knowledge and magical proficiency, is their staunch protection of slavery.
However, Solace’s branch of House Telvanni is quite different.
For starters, it is ruled by a single woman, Lady Morganna, who resides within the settlement of Tel Dradihn. Under her administration as Archmagister, slavery is looked down upon and spat upon – which usually means total annihilation. Well, so long as it is not a demon – demons and evil entities are free game for the enslavement of House Telvanni’s members. As for a system of rules, there are only three.
*Wizard Lord, Mage Lord, etc are all genderless terms used to describe any member(s) who is above the rank of Spellwright.
Rules of House Telvanni
Disagreements are settled with magical duels – to the death or otherwise. Whoever wins obviously had the better argument, as their magical willpower overpowered their opponent.
Slavery of N’wahs* is prohibited – Members caught owning N’wahs are to be hunted and executed or expelled.
Thievery is prohibited – Members who have things stolen from them by other members are free to challenge them to magical duels and kill them without intra-faction consequences.
*N’wah: A non-magical or magical individual who is not apart of House Telvanni. Excludes demons, evil entities, godly beings, kryssids, angels, and any sort of entity that is stronger than the member in question. Morganna believes strongly that if you defeat something stronger than yourself, you have a right to claim them.
Ranks of House Telvanni
*It is worthy to note that most progressions through House Telvanni are typically based on success in death-defying chores – typically given by Mouths who follow the desires of their Mage Lords. These can range from bringing a high-ranking member a piece of silk, to killing a giant and ripping out its heart to bring back for alchemical ingredients and experimentation. Additionally, to make your way through the ranks, displays of intellect and wisdom are necessary.
Hireling: These are primarily errand people who are not entrusted with major tasks beyond retrieving shipments or packages that a higher member asks them to retrieve. Hirelings are paid relatively well. Members: Various Valician Citizens and The Mushroom Men of Tel Dradihn.
Retainer: The First Rank in House Telvanni, these are Hirelings who have proved useful enough to gain the favor of a Mage Lord or Mouth, and thus have been granted an official title. Members: Alysson Saddler, Vyv Prime.
Oathman: The Second Rank in House Telvanni, these are members who have proven exceptionally well and have proven themselves to be loyal to House Telvanni – the house, not exactly its members. These members do not hold authority over Retainers. Members: Sir Animaton.
Lawman: The Third Rank in House Telvanni, reserved for people who have proven their worth to House Telvanni, and are entrusted with the protection of House Telvanni’s assets. These range from guarding the mushroom towers to caravans full of gold or money. At this rank, a battle-mage’s experience in magic is highly sought after, but not necessary. If they do not wish to be guards or enforcers, they can instead work to move up in rank. Members: The Mushroom Lords of Tel Dradihn.
Mouth: The Fourth Rank of House Telvanni, these are members who have proven themselves to be intellectual power houses and capable of magical proficiency – hence, they are exclusively mages of some kind. Mouths are essentially the political faces of the Telvanni Mage Lords, who gather to discuss the wishes of their respective Lords weekly. They are the ones who are proven to be entirely loyal to a Mage Lord and thus have been entrusted to represent their will upon the political and social world. Alternatively, Mouths are instead members who have sworn loyalty to a specific Mage Lord and thus carry out their will directly, rather than get their jobs from Mouths. These members hold sway over all previous ranks and can raise people through the ranks. ENG Requirement: 10 ENG. Members: None.
Spellwright: The Fifth Rank of House Telvanni, these are mages who have proven themselves to a Mage Lord to be capable of complex magical understanding and have carried out their Mage Lord’s desires to perfection, and or excellent efficiency. They hold sway over every rank below Mouth. ENG Requirement: 15 ENG. Members: None.
Wizard: The Sixth Rank of House Telvanni, this rank is exclusive to Telvanni Mages who are ready to grow their own Telvanni Towers. They must learn how to grow a Mushroom Tower, find a location they find suitable to their desires and experimentation, and grow at their leisure. Suggestion: Before growing a tower, it is advisable to gain a land permit from whatever organization or government owns the territory you wish to grow upon. Otherwise, they may find a newly grown mushroom tower illegal and try to route out the Wizard. A Wizard who does this is free to do as they please, but assistance from the House is not immediately granted. These members are also free to enlist their own Mouths and Spellwrights. ENG Requirement: 20 ENG. Members: None.
Magister: The Seventh Rank of House Telvanni, this rank is reserved for those who have fully grown their Telvanni Mushroom Tower and have become autonomous Telvanni Members. They are free to grant the title of Wizard to anyone they deem worthy. This title must be directly granted from an Archmagister. ENG Requirement: 25 ENG. Members: None.
Archmagister: The Eighth and Final Rank of House Telvanni, this rank is for the most powerful, influential mage in House Telvanni. To achieve the title of Archmagister, you must kill the current Archmagister in a magical duel. This is the only way to prove that your argument is the strongest amidst an entire faction of insanely powerful mages. Archmagister of Solace: Morganna Telvanni.
A Final Note
With all this in mind, there is one thing that unites all Telvanni – the pursuit of knowledge. Within House Telvanni, there are no rules regarding magic. Necromancy, Demonology, Chronomancy, and any other dangerous field of magic are encouraged and deemed a valid school to invest one’s time in. House Telvanni is not, per say, a haven for evil wizards, but instead a haven for those who wish to invest in their magical talents to the highest levels of perfection and efficiency.
Those who desire power, wisdom, knowledge, and magical freedom are welcome in the Great House.
And those who Challenge the Great House, Good Luck.
