The Seven Moons is the second most popular religion in the world, closely following the Ascending God, and the largest in the Kingdom of Loria. Its adherents, known as 'Septims', believe in the Seven Moons that once orbited Solace, and became the current singular moon after successfully recreating humanity using the Seventh's teachings millions of years ago.
There were originally six moons, which were the vessels of six deities that created the Realm of Solace, and added a model of humanity based on their own personality traits. Though their creation succeeded, humanity itself was flawed, evil, and self-destructive; civilizations repeatedly rose and fell as they exhausted their resources and waged war against one another, a pattern they incessantly followed with no resolution.
The Moons believed humanity was missing a final component, but couldn't conclude on what it was. Troubled, they searched the world for millennia, until they found a pale child named Lora. From childhood to adulthood, this woman behaved in a way never before seen, as she helped the downtrodden with naught in exchange, and eventually sought to change the minds of men. Having been born in a powerful family, Lora used her influence to spread teachings of compassion, thoughtfulness, and selflessness. This had no place in a world of coldness, however; her teachings were ultimately rejected by higher powers, who had her killed by hanging her upside down and slitting her throat in view of the public. Despite facing death, Lora never ceased to believe the world could be a better place.
Moved by this tragic event, the Moons lifted Lora's soul unto their plane existence, revealing their true godly forms before her. They knew they'd found the missing component, and so, they turned her into the Seventh Moon and led humanity to extinction, before recreating it using her teachings. The Seven Moons observed the development of the new humanity for ages, and when they were satisfied with their creation, they melded into one another to become The Singular Moon, which orbits The Realm of Solace to this very day.
Because the Singular Moon represents all Seven, the deities are worshipped separately and singularly. Each Moon represents a set of values, which, together, make up the guidelines each good man or woman should follow so that humanity may prevail.
The First - Waxing Crescent: Independence, Perseverance, Courage.
The Second - First Quarter: Patience, Concentration, Discipline.
The Third - Waxing Gibbous: Honesty, Determination, Fairness.
The Fourth - Waning Gibbous: Service, Loyalty, Justice.
The Fifth - Third Quarter: Balance, Self-Control, Responsibility.
The Sixth - Waning Crescent: Creativity, Artistry, Cleverness.
The Seventh - Full Moon: Compassion, Forgiveness, Tolerance.
Each Moon has an individual respective prayer, and there's a single prayer for all Seven.
Every year, at the beginning of each moon phase, a festival is held for the respective Moon, decorated with colors and ingredients that represent its values. Between Oventer and Noventer, when the moon is closest to the Realm and the largest Full Moon is displayed, a two-week-long Festival of the Seven Moons is held across the entire Kingdom, where families, communities, villages and cities, celebrate the Gods and its representing values.
Outside of these specific celebrations, people gather once a week in public temples to pray to the Moons. These congregations do not take place if there's a New Moon, as that is the time where the Moons rest, and they must not be disturbed. Most people do not work in the day following a New Moon, since it's a holy day where they must rest along with the Gods.
The religion is typically symbolized with an upwards crescent, or a full moon. Expressions such as "Seven Moons", "by the moons", "by the Seven", "Lora's name", "moons guide you", and more, are commonly used to call upon the Moons to convey surprise or share goodwill.
