The Inter-Island Express is a system of railroad lines that connect each of Loria to the via Railroad Stations in each . Trains run 24/7 at regular intervals, and tickets can be easily afforded by the vast majority of the Kingdom's population.
The vehicle employed in this system is the AEG Alessia class 8-6-1 Locomotive. Built in 3931,it has gone through 3 variations since its inception, with the Arcane Engineer Guild providing all upkeep and retrofits. The Locomotive is an 8-6-1 notation that runs 3 cryptite cores for power. Normally under substantial and consistent loads a cryptite core would explode; this issue was dealt with by the addition of a special cooling system that routes liquid around the cores in heat resistant pipes to keep the cryptite from becoming too heavily strained, even with heavy loads and mountainous terrain, the Alessia Locomotives have a flawless track record, and each train is still in operation. Excess steam generated by the train is bled out via large stacks on the top and rear of the Locomotive.
The wilderness of Loria can be dangerous, and the Alessia is equipped to deal with most related problems. Each train has a complement of guards, while the Locomotive itself is equipped with a sturdy cattle guard on the front to push monsters, snow, trees or anything else out of the way. A fire system on the skirts of the locomotive and the cars can be activated while traveling, which sends a constant wave of flames pulled from the Cryptite core and down to the sides of the track to prevent creatures or the occasional crazy bandit from attacking. The train has a reinforced steel structure and skin that renders it highly resistant to physical and magical damage alike.
The Alessia pulls 10 cars behind it, each with different purposes. Each car is a standard length of 70 meters in length and 6 meters high.
Car 1: Crew car. This car houses the Train staff who work in shifts to keep the train running smoothly.
Car 2: VIP Car. This car will hold heads of state, high ranking military or, if it is not used, someone who can pay enough to afford it. It is placed in between the Crew Car and Supply Car to prevent constant movement into the car itself, and for security purposes.
Car 3: Supply car. This car holds supplies for any kind of scenario, from emergencies to food. It is stocked at every train depot via a system that allows the removal of the interior of the car and immediate replacement to keep schedule.
Cars 4-8: Passenger cars. The typical passenger car is certainly less compared to the VIP car, however it is not basic. Passengers are seated 4 to a cabin, with enough room to recline and sleep on longer trips. Car seats are arranged in a closed compartment configuration. The 4th car has a bar for patrons old enough to drink.
Car 9: Cargo. This car holds bulk cargo and luggage too big to fit into the Passenger car.
Car 10: Caboose. Mostly a station for guards.
To this day, the Inter-Island Express is the Kingdom's safest, cheapest, and quickest way to travel across the land, making it the most widely used means of transportation for civilians and military personnel alike. Its direct railways and high speeds allow it to cross from province to province in less than a day.
