Information

Name:  Essence Palinoia

Age:  26

Species:  Bionic Human

Height:  5'8"

Appearance:  Owing to the incident seven years ago, Essence is an androgynous-faced woman whose body is largely comprised of a complex and black-hued mechanical structure. Her face from the upper-jaw up, the left half of her torso, her left leg, and half of her right forearm remains as flesh. The remainder of her body, including the majority of her inner organs, flesh, skeleton, and the entirety of her waist, were replaced by metallic constructs manifested from Sanguis Domini.

As a result of the incident, nanobots layer her entire body in three transparent and incredibly thin layers collectively known as "Nano Skin," creating the green glow of her eyes, as well as the green tattoo-like markings surrounding her visage. The hair of her head, as well, is protected by a thicker coating of these minuscule robots.

Apparel:  In most circumstances, Essence neglects to wear clothing. The parts of her body that would be less socially-acceptable if revealed, are either visually concealed via the Nano Skin (her left breast) or non-existent due to the incident. However, if needed for whatever reason, Essence is equipped with a large cloak's worth of nanobots. The coat they combine to create is large enough to drape over the entirety of her figure.

Hometown:  Dawsbury

Character Skills

Bionic Condition [Passive]

Having dropped into the Pit, Essence's ravaged and severed body fell into a black, writhing lake of insectoid ancient technology known as Sanguis Domini, or the Blood of God. As they reassembled her flesh and manifested her new body, they bound themselves to her mind and permanently established a biological-technological fusion.

Physique: Weighing well over [seven-hundred pounds], the cellular structure of Essence's remaining flesh has become enveloped in countless nanobots, resulting in a [heightened physical fortitude, strength, and durability]. The Nano Skin layers the entirety of the bionic body in three layers, each having their purpose. The inner-most monitors both physical health and mechanical diagnostics, aiding to [repair damage overtime via nanobots], with minor damage fixed most rapidly. The middle layer disperses impact forces across a wider surface to minimize incoming damage, allowing her to react to changing circumstances with more fluidity. The third and outermost layer, a rarity among her type, serves the sole purpose of drastically reinforcing her remaining flesh. This allows her to support the intense weight of her mechanical aspects without crumbling or faltering.

Temporarily regenerates +2 ENR/2 Posts when Relaxed.
Sensory: Owing to the nanobot envelopment of even her brain cells and the ensuing enhancements, Essence is capable of processing a vastly abnormal amount of received cognitive information at a rate several times faster than most humans, allowing her [enhanced sight and hearing].
Temporarily grants +1 SPD when Focused.

Sub-Mind: Infectious Code [Passive]

The Coronation Sequence is a bio-technological fusion process that often results in the manifestation of a separate subconscious, denoted the Sub-Mind. Essence's Sub-Mind has the largest role in managing the technological aspects of her body, ensuring that it remains in perfect sync with her flesh.
However, due to the unique unusual circumstance in which she underwent the Coronation Sequence, her Sub-Mind is corrupted. This has resulted in Infectious Code, an automatically transmitted signal that efficiently effects technology she comes in direct contact with. Due to its unusual make-up, it is a virus that appears within each device differently, but uniquely manifests a Glitch. In most devices, the virus simply runs rampant until the device overheats or combusts, damaged heavily. In the case of devices with complex software, the virus roots itself and randomly alters programming to no foreseeable end, slowly breaking and reshaping its framework. This occurrence is the Glitch.

Forced Assimilation [Passive]

This denotes the primary function and core process of the Coronation Sequence. In circumstances where technological assimilation is monitored and completed without issue, this function of the Sanguis Domini is rendered disabled henceforth. Essence is not an example of this case.
As she damages organic tissue in her vicinity, Essence's body starts the process of assimilation on unwilling living targets. Damaged sections on their body, through maintained direct contact with hers, will begin to be filled with or replaced by the Blood of God. Though it is a naturally painful process, if the target is out of contact for [2 Posts], the effects are reversed without issue. If they die during Forced Assimilation, Sanguis Domini will rapidly multiply and grow, taking over the fresh corpse to generate a robotic ally. Up to three allies can be created from corpses at once.

{4.54.82.4} [Active]

Also known as Glitch. Essence's Sub-Mind is ground-zero for a viral corruption code that first affected her own Sub-Mind. Under the influence of a Glitch, Sanguis Domini tends to display highly unusual and often unprecedented events, but most often is the reason for a color-saturated flickering effect within the mechanical constructs. Individuals owning Sanguis Domini within their body normally have their entire body affected by this, but Essence is a particular case.

Melee: Close-Quarters Combat via use of Right Arm + Right Leg is enhanced. Results in sudden powerful blow-back force when the body part abruptly flickers through or into an object. Temporarily grants +2 STR. Duration: 2 Posts. Cool-down: 1 Post. Travel: When intending to cross a distance exceeding three meters, the body flickers rapidly in the given direction to drastically increase movement speed. The further the distance, the faster the movement. Temporarily grants +2 SPD. Duration: 2 Posts. Cool-down: 1 Post.

Nano Surge [Active]

The lesser of the only two abilities manifested by her Sub-Mind, Essence has the ability to remotely control a single large swarm of nanobots often concealed on her person as a long coat. Her weak control over this ability neglects the creation of complex structures, resulting in her crude prowess in manifesting a large blade configuration, a thick defensive configuration, or some combination of the two.
Cost: -1 ENR/Configuration, except when returning to Default: Cloak.

Volt Play [Active]

The stronger of the two abilities manifested by her Sub-Mind, Essence retains the skill of generating, manipulating, and projecting copious amounts of voltage from any point on her body and through conducive mediums. Though she showcases exceptional precision with this ability, her capability is otherwise brutish. As a result, she overheats often with overuse or area-of-effect attacks, her largest spanning five meters of destructive capability.
Cost: -1 ENR/Generation, -3 ENR/Generation for A.o.E. Cool-down: 3 Posts for every -3 ENR.

Backstory
As the rumors go… Deep in the land of Greenveld, obscured from a stranger's sight, prowls an otherworldly thing. A living mist of plague and death, they say, it paces restless in the depths of hidden caverns and crevices atop rotted bone and charred flesh. It is where life and peace go to die, as the unholy miasma it radiates penetrates even the very earth to hunt during the day when it can't. It's home is a forbidden place, they mutter. Ungodly. Godly wrath. Vengeance incarnate, they worry. They repent. They fear. They stay away. Good. The Palinoia Clan. This creature is no figment of an imagination. It indeed prowls, and hunts, feeding on nature's mana. But it is a protector of an unknown people. The Palinoia, a clan residing comfortably alongside this manifestation of arcane will, are a secretive one of countless generations yet unyielding tradition. Birthed many centuries ago from the companionship of two ancestral families, they once traveled the world and played among foreign powers, gaining influence and control throughout centuries of strategic ploys. Such was passed down, but soon these branched out members and their new families came together in Greenveld. The Palinoia are a people of accumulated knowledge. They valued such enough to come together once more in Greenveld, and instead operate in controlled secrecy. Their members ventured as nomads, searching first for new studies in sciences, a fresh exploration of the world about them. It's many creatures, their habits, their successes and failures in living. Geographical intrigue gave way to a history of the earth before man, and they cheered for seemingly endless seasons of discoveries. But as little made sense, their minds opened. Their world is a world of arcane feats. The earth beneath their feet was as alive and breathing as any other animal. As they learned of mana, they grew powerful. Societal demands and games challenging honor or prestige or royalty no longer mattered. The earth held beautiful arcane artifacts in its hidden depths, why would a crown of metal pose interest? Thus the age of magic made itself present. And so did concern. Their thirst for knowing was a desire they didn't wish an end to. As they learned of magic, their vitality sprouted new leaves. Decades added to their health, a rejuvenation even in old age- but mana is a finite resource in its complexity. No human held enough power on their own to command an ocean's worth in their body. Centuries were spent searching for a means of immortality during the Age of Arcana within the clan. And then Aeternus was born. As generations came and went, the knowledge of the clan had been passed down to its willing members. Aeternus was no exception, but his genius even among them was evident in his early years. As young as his twenties did he discover immortality amidst the complex combination of ancient technology and old magic. And just as quickly he departed from the clan. Chaos ensued. As the first generation of immortals were created out of Aeternus and his familial elders, the next generations invested their energy in hate and greed. Immortality shouldn't be given to those that would abuse it, but it was a technology too new and unprotected. In days, the First Generation fell. In years, The Second Generation thrived. In centuries, they and the Third Generation yet still controlled it all. They wished to hold the world's secrets, its powers once hidden and its artifacts once broken now made whole and in their grasp. Essence Palinoia. Her life, short-lived as it were, is one of unexpected misfortune. As a young girl, she grew up within the clan under her great-grandmother Shelie-Yadira, her Nami. Her family is one of the many that formed the branches of the Palinoia tree, but remains one of the few who lost a portion of their history. This made her family an oddity amongst them, but nonetheless cared for like any other. Her parents, alive and well, operated mainly as caretakers of the relics and ancient scrolls detailing some culture or another's expansive history and practices, and often spent their time teaching students about such artifacts. But as there existed a freedom in how one went about indulging in the recorded history of the world, there also existed a love of life and peace in this young girl's heart. Intrigue often brought her from classroom to classroom, but she often believed there was more to learn from the woman that spent her elder years raising her. As old as she was, coming on to a century of life, Shelie-Yadira spent most of her time as a Palinoia nomad, venturing the world and often returning with unusual devices. While many learned in classes, Essence learned from this wise one. And one day, the woman disappeared. She had only just turned nineteen when she woke up to find her Nami missing, though a caretaker at that age was rather unneeded. She spent her days as she normally did, taking care of the house in her Nami's stead, and self-educating with the books her parents harbored in the study. It wasn't unheard of for the Elder Council to take in new members at random, and Shelie-Yadira remained one of the more interesting and experienced of her generation. Like her parents, she assumed they had called her for some sort of interview- the process remained rather secretive, after all. But as weeks passed with no word or explanation, Essence grew nervous. But it was curiosity about one of the High Eldest's apprentice's rather sneaky goings in and out of the schools that egged her to follow the man. An evening spent tracing him at a distance ended fruitlessly with how he could vanish at a whim. It took days of study, watching in silence, to figure out how he could appear in one place after vanishing from another- ancient magic had its uses even now, it seemed. But her Nami taught her how to hunt, and Essence is an exceptional student. Evening birthed night as she found the man once more, departing a flower shop with a satchel hanging at his side. She spent hours, then, chasing after him all too aware that he had long caught on to her antics. When their game ended in a cultural gallery, it was because he stepped through a large mirror. An artifact long thought to be defective and useless glowed with an ethereal beauty as he disappeared behind the ripples of its glass- Essence found herself enamored by it. Its glow faded as she approached it minutes after he stepped through, and she tinkered with it like he did to the best of her ability. Abruptly, the glass shattered as the energy whipped out, latching onto her body and slamming her in. Her head throbbed as she woke up, body dangling from beautiful chains. Blood dripped from her mouth as a hoarse, familiar voice spoke out to her. The High Eldest and his apprentice both stood there, a small pyramid in the Eldest's hand, glowing blues and oranges of a vivid hue. Her consciousness faded in and out as the old man spoke, something of threats and ancient happenings and blood. But it took only a moment for her brain to understand that they wanted her dead. She was the threat. Panic flooded her as the chains were released and she fell into the apprentice's arms- she flailed and kicked and yelled until she palmed his nose, forcing him to release and stumble back. His satchel fell open, countless notes speaking of archaic concepts like immortality, and something about First Generation evils. The girl was quick to gather herself, pulling to her feet to disappear down a dark hall. Unamused, the High Eldest followed after her with no footsteps. His voice echoed a chant as she sprinted, making lefts and rights in hopes of finding a way out of this putrid maze. But for every step she took, his voice grew louder. He denied her escape. He ranted on in certain anger, of the threat she posed like the ancestor long before her. Her Nami had been taken care of, he said, and her heart throbbed painfully in her chest. Tears clouded her eyes as she kept moving, panting and exhausted and hurt in too many ways. Until she stopped. At her feet, an abyssal nothingness. What she thought was the doorway to another room had a ceiling, but no floor. Moonlight showed her a desert's horizon past the columns that held up a mural of constellations, and Essence found herself at wit's end. A sudden pain seized her as she looked down at a white spearhead protruding through her jacket. It dissipated, some sort of paralyzing magic of the apprentice's making. But the shit-eating grin on his face was lost in the light of the High Eldest's glowing artifact. And a sway of his hand erased so much of her body from this world. What little remained of her fell into the chasm, and into a pit of writhing ugliness. Her consciousness faded, odd voices reassuring her of coming peace if she simply gave up her flesh. She was understanding, and willing. Death was coming. When she opened her eyes, the panicked faces of her parents stared back at her. She wasn't in their arms, or in her bed, but...standing. At the center of the town. It wasn't just them, but many of their friends and family and the clan watched on, as blackened insects dug wildly into her arms, her chest, her skull. Some gasped and stepped back in fear and others looked on in intrigue. When she stumbled forth, it was another Elder woman who did so. She had a beautiful glow to her eyes that brought Essence to tears. Confusion flooded her when the Elder abruptly pulled away, thrashing as if fighting unseen demons. But the young girl lost consciousness once more, to awaken in chains less appealing in a dark room. In the distance, a trial held against her and another- Scyntilla of the Elder Council. In a matter of mere minutes, they were banished from the Palinoia Clan.
